Starting A New Fitness Routine

If you have been inactive for a long time and want to start working out, you should proceed slowly. This article is a helpful guide you should use to design your new fitness routine.

Start slowly. Go to your doctor to find out if working out is a good option for you or not. At first, you should workout twice a week for about thirty minutes. Develop your cardio with exercises such as running or swimming. Once your heart is stronger, you will be able to exercise for longer periods of time. You can then start developing your muscles with sit ups, push ups and weight lifting. Take things slowly and add new exercises to your routine one at a time. Start exercising more frequently but remember to take breaks when you need to.

Always stretch before and after you workout, as well as the morning following your workout. Stretching warms up your muscles and prepares them for your routine. Stretching after your work out relaxes your muscles. Stretch every muscle for at least thirty seconds. If you are over 40 or have been inactive for years, stretch for more than thirty seconds. If you stretch properly, you should avoid injuries or sore muscles after you work out. If your muscles are hurting, you should take a day off and work out the next day instead.

Exercising does not have to be about working out. A good workout routine is efficient, but there are other things you can do. For instance, cleaning your house thoroughly or mowing your yard is a good way to exercise. Look for things you can do to stay active throughout the day at home and at work. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, reorganize your file cabinet, clean your workspace or go for a power walk on your lunch break. Ride your bike instead of driving your car and go for an energetic walk with your dog. If you have children, play sports with them or chase them around. You could also join a yoga class or start practicing a team sport. There are many different ways you can stay active and get some exercise: look for something you enjoy and can do on a regular basis.

Exercising does not have to be painful. If you are hurting, especially from your articulations, you are probably not performing the exercise like you are supposed to. Working out puts a lot of strain on your muscles. You should feel a burning sensation, as if your muscles were pulled in opposite direction. The next day, your muscles will heal and gain mass. This is how muscles expand. You should expect some pain, but it should be very easy to bear in small doses. Do not push your limits and plan on developing your body slowly for better results.

Follow these four steps to make change to your habits and develop a good fitness program. You should see the results you were hoping for with in a few months if you stick to your program.
